Hi, I’m Rob Howard and if you’re reading this, there’s a chance you’re considering Stone Solutions Maine for a home improvement project. I’ve been lucky enough to work with hundreds of clients over my 30 years in the business and I’m proud of the reputation and relationships I’ve built along the way.

From the first meeting on, I take pride in caring for your property, family, pets, and budget as if they were my own. And please don’t just take my word for it: If you know any of my past customers, I encourage you to ask them about my work and I also suggest that you read my reviews on Google. We’re all about transparency at Stone Solutions, so here are a couple of other things I think you should know about me and the team.

I’m Old School When It Comes to Customer Service

I started Stone Solutions Maine because I was so unhappy with how the last company I worked for went about its business. There was so little regard for the quality of products and how people were treated. I’m the kind of guy who can’t sleep at night if a job isn’t done right, and I decided I could never again work for a company that didn’t feel the same.

People often tell me how they tried contacting other businesses first and couldn’t even get a callback. It’s a common complaint in the field, but not one you’ll have to worry about with me. If I’m already booked up and can’t take your job, I will always let you know — and I’ll happily share referrals for other good companies if you’re interested. And if you ever need to call back because of a problem with a finished project (which I promise is rare!), we’ll answer the call and be back as soon as we can.

I’m Versatile and Creative

On any given week I may work on a patio, indoor veneer walls, a staircase project, or a walkway. Browse the pages of my services section to get a sense of my range. I’ve been asked which types of jobs I like to work on best. It’s a tough call, but I do love the creative challenge that sometimes comes with an outdoor fireplace project. There’s an artistry involved in the design and construction of not just the fireplace, but the surrounding features that help build the ambiance of the gathering area.

You Won’t Find Anyone Who Produces Such Quality Work At My Price

You can find less expensive masonry companies in the area, and if that’s your top priority, I get it. I would only caution that sometimes the “cheapest” option winds up costing you more in the end.

Unfortunately, we get a fair number of calls from customers asking us to fix others’ subpar work. It’s not always simple Sometimes there’s no other choice but to rip out all of the stone and start over.

I often tell people, 90 percent of the work in masonry is in the prep — the below-ground work you never see or think about. Anybody can do window dressing work on top of the ground and walk away from the job with it looking great

I Bring My Personal Passions to Work

I spend my all-too-few hours of spare time enjoying nature yoga, tapping, meditating, eating healthy, and pursuing holistic wellness. I had a conversation with my wife recently about how I can incorporate these sources of positivity in my work, and she made a great observation: I’ve been doing it more than I realized through my interactions with customers. I also care deeply about the environment and choose to use natural materials and green building practices whenever possible. I contribute my time and funding to charitable organizations dedicated to issues I care about, including organic food movement and animal welfare.

I’m a Lifelong Mainer

I was born in Portland and grew up in South Portland, where I attended high school with my wife. To this day, most of my work is in the coastal/southern Maine towns I’ve enjoyed since my childhood – great places like Kennebunk, Scarborough, Falmouth, Old Orchard Beach, and Freeport. Today we’re building our dream home on a quiet 5-acre property in New Gloucester, where we can grow our own food and enjoy the small-town charm. I have a lifetime’s understanding of the challenges and rewards of building and creating in our climate and would love the opportunity to create a special, functional place for you where you will make memories with family and friends to last a lifetime

This entails most of what we do. Each project we work with the finest stone materials, pavers, landscape blocks and locally sourced items. Our work is carefully planned and thought out so that it can withstand the elements and you can feel confident that it is built to last.

Usually no two projects are the same, however we are willing to go above and beyond to bring your vision to life. Our custom work can often be seen in our outdoor pizza ovens, fire places and creative ability to use natural stone from your current landscape to incorporate a unique feel.

From the moment we had our consultation with Rob from Stone solutions it was quickly clear that we were going to hire him for our project. With 30 years of experience and confidence Rob was able to give us great advice and help us choose materials. He gave us a price for all work and materials and it was the exact same price upon completion! He said he was about 2 months out before he could start our project and he showed up with his team exactly two months when he said he would! Rob and his team work fast, efficient, and clean. They installed a 80’ walk way. Removed and hauled away existing material. Salvaged existing material. Removed and hauled away earth, rock, unforeseen cement, and soil. Relocated a plant we were quite attached to. Brought in a loam and compost mix for us where we will grow new grass and plant flowering shrubs. They even completed this project faster than they anticipated! The work is beautiful, the materials and installation are built for longevity, and the clean up was fantastic! We have hired a lot of different people to do work at our home inside and outside as we have done a great deal of renovations. I honestly wish I could give Rob and Stone Solutions a 10 star review. It was an absolute pleasure working with him from the first minute we met him until the last day when we said goodbye. I wish I could have this experience with everyone that we have hired. I’ve wanted a custom stone patio for years, and I had so many disappointing engagements with so many local contractors that I sort of gave up.  Then I met Rob. I called him on a Saturday afternoon when I was sitting across from him at an intersection and saw his number on the side of his truck.  He was at my house the following Monday. I had an estimate by Wednesday. And when he couldn’t start the job within two days of when he told me, he called to let me know. It was fun to ramble on about what I wanted and then to have him give me that and even more!  I have lots of projects done at my house and this was the most professional, beautifully done project I’ve had yet. His guys are so professional, kind and skilled AND I like their taste in music!  I couldn’t wait until the end of each day to see the incredible progress they made and to see my little dream come to life more beautiful than I could have anticipated. The guys are coming back in September for more work and I know by the time they wrap that up, I’ll be on their list for next year. I own my own business and I don’t take writing a review lightly. When I first met with Rob I didn't know if what I wanted was even possible within my budget. He was very patient and understanding that my budget was a priority, but that I understandably didn't want to lose out on quality craftsmanship or materials in the process. Rob was able to find a solution that worked and we are thrilled with the results! We went from having just a grassy hill in front of our house to a beautiful walkway with granite steps and intricately laid stone so our guests now have a way to access the front door. Rob just completed a large patio project for me, which included removal of a large sitting wall, installation of new patio, custom stairs and a custom grill island. Rob was thorough at every step of the way making sure our expectations were aligned. His communication throughout was top notch and he was very easy to get ahold of whenever needed. Over the past two weeks, since we have been living with the results of Rob’s design and workmanship, we feel our entire property has been transformed from a house to a home. Reliable If you are searching for that rare, reliable contractor who pays the utmost attention to detail, takes pride in his equipment, work, and delivers what he has promised, Rob and his crew are for you. Dependable Rob, owner of Stone Solutions, is a clear communicator who responds within a short period of time. His two-man crew has worked with him for over 20 years of his 30+ years focused on masonry. From the start of us contacting him, Rob confirmed a meeting time, showed up early, and evaluated the site of two walks and one patio. He was prepared with material suggestions and options to fit our budget. Over a period of five days, we exchanged ideas about design, materials, and budget. Rob encouraged us to “sleep on it” at the decision point for each of three designs. Equipment and materials were brought to the site on the dates Rob said to expect him. Rob provided estimates and when the work was done, he stuck to his proposal even though there were some unexpected change orders. Focused, Punctual, Accountable The crew and Rob work non-stop, harder, and with more focus than any craftsmen we have worked with. The crew arrived on time each morning and cleaned up the site each day before heading home. The speed at which the work was completed impressed us.
