As the days get shorter and the nights get longer, people have to find things to do inside the house. Most people tend to go out less often, and many report mood shifts due to the changes in seasons. Fall can be made a little less dull by doing fun activities with your family. We have listed some things that you can do with your family this fall. Hopefully, you and your family can ditch the smartphones and spend some quality time together!

Have a story night and a Build Pillow Fort

Reading beside the fire is a great way to bond with your family. Tell funny and spooky stories to each other to have a good laugh together.

They could be real-life stories that the kids could learn something from or old classics. Instead of just one person telling the entire story, take turns to complete it. That will make it more fun and engaging.

You can also make a pillow fort and do role plays. Collect as many pillows and blankets as you can to remain cozy, but remember to keep stuffed toys and blankets a safe distance from the fire.

Play Fun Games and Watch a Movie

Enjoy a quiet fall evening by playing board games in front of your fireplace. Wipe away the dust from your Monopoly, Scrabble, and UNO and take them out for a fun family night.

You can also have a friendly jigsaw competition or play a game of Dumb Charades to add excitement and hilarity to your family gathering. Twister and Pictionary are also great games that reveal everyone’s competitive side.

Another fun activity that every family member will agree to is watching a movie. Watch Marvel Classics and Spider-Man reruns. You can take turns from watching Disney Classics one day to action-packed thrillers the other. Make sure to have your popcorn and snacks ready for a cinematic experience.

Do Arts and Crafts.

If you have a family member interested in arts and crafts, they will love this idea. Even if you’re not an art person, simple crafts like origami, coloring, and scrapbooking can make an enjoyable family activity. Coloring books for adults is also an effective way to reduce stress.

You can work together on a single detailed project like creating mosaic pictures, making salt dough decorations, or do a simple project individually like painting a pot. You can use this time to make personalized holiday cards and decorations for Christmas.

Revisit old Memories

Going through old albums, videotapes, and family belongings helps in reliving those beautiful moments. Sit with your family in front of the fireplace and go through the childhood albums. You will laugh, cry and feel a surge of nostalgia. Watch old family tapes and reflect on the happy moments you shared.

Make Scented Candles

Scented candles are easy to make – and also cheap. They emanate a pleasant aroma as they burn. Making scented candles with your family in a late fall evening can be very therapeutic. All you need is an old saucepan, a heat-resistant pouring pitcher, a scent of your choice, some candle wicks, and candle jars.

Make a double boiler setup by placing the saucepan over the heat-resistant pitcher. Melt the candle wax to a temperature of 185°F and add a scent or essential oil of your choice. Now, place the candle wicks in the empty candle jars. Once the wax cools to a temperature of 135°F, pour it into the candle jars and allow it to cool overnight.

Place the candles over your fireplace mantle. Light them and enjoy your favorite scent while reading a book to your children.
